• HOTBOX

Hotbox is a four piece hot-bed of melodic punk out of the San Francisco Bay Area. After only one year of playing in their hometown, Hotbox was voted the "Best Local Punk Band of 1999" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, beating out acts such as Green Day and the Swingin' Utters.

Front-woman Mel Chappell, who is responsible for whipping up the bulk of Hotbox's hooky sing-along anthems, has been compared to the likes of Cherie Currie and Joan Jett of the Runaways, Berlin's Terri Nun, and Pat Benetar. All the members of Hotbox have an impressive history of musical experience. Guitarist Barry Ward honed his legendary skills playing in the bands: GWAR, RKL, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes and several other well-known groups.

From the very start, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Hotbox. Hotbox hit the ground running, playing some of their very first shows with big-name bands, and quickly rose to playing the larger and more scrupulous clubs in the area. Hotbox has appeared on about 10 nationally-released compilations and they have been covered on local television shows, and local college and community radio stations. There is no doubt that this band has a very bright future. Lickity Split, their long-awaited debut album, is merely a calling card for things to come.
